Play in the Community
Planning your play area
The Planning Your Play Area section will help when you are working towards creating or improving a play area. It provides information with practical step-by-step guidance on things you could think about and do.
Children and teenagers play and hang out in many places, some designed for play and some not. These include streets, parks, skate parks, open spaces and natural areas like beaches, woods and rivers.
Places designed for play – usually referred to as play areas, playgrounds or equipped play areas – may have equipment such as swings, slides, climbing frames. They may also include natural features such as shrubs, rocks and sand or facilities that support play such as drinking fountains and accessible picnic benches.
